percentile of households · assumes 2.5 people

The median household in Spain brings in about €31,264 a year. At €45,000, you are above it — roughly the 73rd percentile of households.

This is comfortably above the Spain median for a single-income household. Globally it sits near the top of the curve, which says as much about the world as about you.

Why the two numbers disagree

A worldwide ranking compares you with 8 billion people across every price level on earth. A national ranking compares you with households that face the same prices, taxes and rent you do. The first number is flattering; the second is useful.

How this is calculated

Global: World Bank PIP world aggregate for 2023 at 2021 purchasing power parity, interpolated between published thresholds. At home: the same source's distribution for Spain (2021 survey), scaled from per-person income to a household of about 2.5 people — which reproduces the official median household income within a few percent.

FAQ

Why does the global number look so much better than my local one?
Because global income is extremely uneven. Being in the top few percent worldwide is normal for anyone in a high-income country — it reflects geography more than effort.
How is the at-home percentile calculated?
We take the World Bank's per-person income distribution for Spain, scale it to a typical household of about 2.5 people, and locate your salary in it. Median household income implied by this method is about €31,264 a year.
Is this salary-to-salary?
Not exactly. It compares your income to household income, so a single person is over-ranked and someone supporting a family is under-ranked.
